Let Your Light Shine
Our God has lit us up and has put so much in us that can transform our world, so don’t dim your light for any reason. Let your light shine ever so brightly!
Meditate on these:
Matthew 5:14 - You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden.
Ephesians 5:8 - For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light.
I have this very tall friend who schooled among people of average height. As you can imagine, nothing about his life was hidden. He could be spotted from afar, and if he was in a crowd, you’d spot him out quickly.
This illustration matches what Jesus says about the believer - that we are the light of the world; a city on the hill that cannot be hidden.
Jesus expects us to be a great light source to the people around us. Our lights are supposed to shine so brightly that it becomes a reason for others not to walk in darkness.
How should this affect our everyday lives? When you are a man/woman of principle, your value system should rub off on your circle and even beyond. Your life becomes something worth emulating. The glory of the Lord radiates so much around you that it is difficult for the world to deny that you are indeed blessed.
Like my tall friend, our Christian life is meant to be very visible even among a large crowd. We are told in the Acts of Apostles that the term “Christian” was first heard in Antioch as a description of the behaviour of the believers there. They behaved “Christ-like” and so the people called them Christians.
Think about your life for a moment. Are you living as a true disciple of Jesus, obeying his commands? Do you think your life currently draws the people around you to Christ? Are you shy to represent Jesus or to tell others about him?
We are told in Matthew 5:15 that no one lights a lamp and puts it under a bushel. Instead, the lamp is placed on a light stand to give light to all who are in the house.
Our God has lit us up and has put so much in us that can transform our world, so don’t dim your light for any reason. Let your light shine ever so brightly.
Action: Be conscious of the fact that you are a city on a hill; a light that cannot be hidden.
Yesterday we looked at the topic - The Mind of Christ.
If you didn’t get a chance to read it, you can still do so today.
God bless you!
