Peace in the Midst of the Storm
I have had moments in my life when I lost my peace over situations but God came through and steadied my heart. He wants to do the same for you today. He's bidding you to come and receive rest.
Memory Verse: Philippians 4:7 - And the peace of God that surpasses all understanding will keep your heart and mind in Christ.
Bible Reading: Mark 4:39 - Then He arose and rebuked the wind, and said to the sea, “Peace be still!” And the wind ceased and there was a great calm.
Yesterday we looked at Joy as a fruit of the Spirit. (If you didn’t have a chance to read it, you can read it here. Don’t worry we will wait for you).
Another fruit of the Spirit is Peace. Jesus says Peace I give you, my peace I leave with you. The peace that the world cannot give.
The verse preceding Philippians 4:7 says we should be anxious for nothing and that by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving, we should make our request known to God and in turn he will give us a peace that surpasses all understanding. This is such a profound promise. It shows us that while things can try to bother us or make us worry, God’s peace trumps it!
The moment you notice that you’ve lost your peace over a situation, one of the first things to do is to be still. Steady your heart so that you can think straight. Your next question would be - What should I think about?
Philippians 4:8 tells us the things to think about. Things that are true, things that are pure, things that have virtue, things that deserve praise.
One person we know for sure who is Pure is God, and so when we lose our peace over financial or health struggles or whatever situation, God our Father is the person to think about.
On that boat, when the storm hit hard, the disciples were afraid and they went to wake Jesus up. Jesus spoke peace to the storm and it calmed down immediately.
I don’t know what storm may be hitting your boat today but in the name of Jesus, I speak God’s peace upon you. Don’t let fear grip you. He that is in you is greater than he that is in the world.
Prayer: Today I receive God’s Peace that surpasses all understanding in Jesus’ name. Amen.
Again, If you didn’t have the chance to read the devotional on Joy from yesterday, you can read it here.
Thank you for these reflections. God bless you 😉😉😉
