Yahweh Sabaoth: The Lord of Hosts
I must tell you this - as long as the Lord of Hosts is on your side, even the most insurmountable problem in your life will deflate like a balloon before your very eyes. In Jesus' name. Amen.
Memory Verse: Psalm 24:10 - Who is this King of Glory? The Lord of hosts, He is the King of Glory.
Bible Reading: 1 Samuel 17:45 - Then said David to the Philistine, Thou comest to me with a sword, and with a spear, and with a shield: but I come to thee in the name of the Lord of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom thou hast defied.
God’s name - Yahweh Sabaoth - is a name that wins battles and pulls down long overdue strongholds.
The Lord of Hosts is a mighty warrior and He has authority over any and everything.
One person in Scripture who called God - The Lord of Hosts - is David. He called Him the God of the armies of Israel, that is - The God who represents His children on the battlefield.
You see, Israel had to go to war with the Philistines, and frankly speaking, their opposition looked so dangerous. It looked like a lost battle even from the start.
But we should know by now that when people try to torment God’s children, He will surely show up as a warrior, a mighty man in battle.
Goliath came out every day for 40 days to torment the Lord’s army. You can imagine!
And for every time Goliath roared like a lion, the Israelites shook like leaves.
In our lives, we sometimes face Goliaths in different forms. It could be in our health, our finances, our marriages, our careers or just with life generally.
We feel like we are stuck, nothing seems to be progressing, everything just seems stagnant and it looks like our problems will soon swallow us up.
But I must tell you this - as long as the Lord of Hosts is on your side, even the most insurmountable problem in your life will deflate like a balloon before your very eyes.
After all, mountains melt like wax in the presence of the Almighty.
Meanwhile, let’s follow this story to the end.
David, the youngest son of Jesse just happened to be around the battlefield when Goliath was defying the Israelite army with his words, and he also saw how everyone was terrified by his presence - but somewhere in his heart, he knew that he was serving a God who was capable of winning battles and so he volunteered to go face to face with Goliath.
Goliath came with his helmet, his sword, his shield and his javelin but David came with God.
You already know how this story ends.
God used the stone from David’s sling to drill a hole in Goliath’s helmet-guarded head.
My mum would usually say that God would use a basket to shame the bucket.
That is exactly what God did to Goliath and the entire Philistines. He shamed them!
I don’t know what Goliath you are facing today. I don’t know how long it has tormented you and your family and made it look like you don’t have a helper.
My charge for you today is that you face that Goliath with God, the Lord of Hosts, the King of Glory, Yahweh Sabaoth.
Do what David did. Put fear aside and call on the name of the God of the armies.
He will never fail you. He will never leave you nor forsake you.
Always remember what Psalms 46:1 tells us - The Lord is our strength and our refuge; an ever-present help in times of trouble.
Prayer: Dear Lord, thank you for reminding me today that the Lord of Hosts is on my side and that You will fight my battles for me while I hold my peace.
